Musings

Our Frangipani - Finally Flowering
One of the things I want to pursue this year is my photography. I want to explore, grow and create. And I want to know if there is a future in this dream of mine.

I love to take photographs. To capture the world through my eyes. Through my lens. And, of course, I could endlessly snap away where my kids are concerned, however, I really want to be more.

I have a RedBubble account. I'm not sure how long it has been active; awhile and I've never had a sale. Rarely even a comment. I occasionally go there now to upload something else, but I feel so disappointed when I am there because I want people to want my photographs.

I want this to be my purpose outside of being a wife, mother, home maker. I just don't know if it is. I suppose that is what this whole year is about... I wish I had more patience.

I've created an album on the BeckyandJames.com FB page with some images I am soon to upload to RedBubble, along with some of my 52 Week shots, feel free to take a look and 'like' us while you're there.

What is your purpose? What do you want it to be?

Living a Life of Purpose

I am a New Year's Resolutioner. Every year I ponder the things I want to change and then on New Year's Eve I sit and write them neatly in my new diary. I love the process. I love the idea.

The problem is follow through. I always make resolutions like 'get back to size 12' or 'finish my manuscript'. Both things I want to do, but maybe I am not making small enough steps because it's not very long before my focus shifts to everyday life and I forget the promises I made to myself as the clock struck twelve, until I am again looking back over the year just gone and realise that I've failed. Again.

Last year I came across Ali Edwards and the brilliant One Little Word movement. Put simply, your One Little Word is a word which you focus on through out the year. A word to live by. A word to guide you and keep you moving in the direction you want to be going in. I followed along with the journey of others last year, but didn't commit to choosing my own.

This year I have decided to leap in. My word essentially chose me. In fact it wasn't even on my short list. I contemplated many words such as positivity, health, family and ME as these are all points I want to focus on this year but Oprah kept whispering in my ear.

"Live a life of purpose."

At first I resisted. I wasn't sure how to incorporate that into my everyday life or what exactly my focus would be or where it could possibly take me, but every time I thought about my word PURPOSE was there. So, I gave in and tentatively chose it. I just wanted to get a feel, see what might be, contemplate what I would want out of a year focused on PURPOSE and the idea grew. Within me, in my heart and mind, it grew to encumbers all the things I wanted to touch on this year and encapsulate every other word I had considered.

I still don't know where this journey will take me, but I am excited. Truly, deeply excited. You know, the excitement that bubbles in your chest. I am desperate to take Ali's One Little Word class as I want to get as much out of this experience as possible, I want the full potential of my word to be met, because I am sure there are great things to be had. Unfortunately, money is too tight, so I will have to miss out this year.

As I focus on my word through out the year I intend to do things on purpose, I intend to center my thoughts on the purpose behind decisions to keep me motivated to continue or to push me to take that first step out of my comfort zone. I hope to find purpose in my life outside of the family to keep me having that all important ME time. I could go on and on about what I plan and hope.

Welcome to my year of PURPOSE!

Are any of you joining in with One Little Word? Or made resolutions?

Life…as I see it
