The Toddler Bed Debate

With less than six months until we welcome our second child into the world, I have been thinking a whole lot about what we're going to do with Ellie when Bubby arrives.

I have a few worries and, in a perfect world, I would have them in separate rooms to avoid things like one waking the other and Ellie finding her way into the cot. I have seen the bigger child almost 'loving' the baby to death and I am worried that Ellie will start climbing into the cot to get at the baby for kisses and cuddles while James and I are blissfully unaware, sleeping in the other room. James thinks this is a silly worry, maybe so but it's not that far fetched that she will be able to climb in and out of the cot by then and I am a mother, worrying is my job where my children are concerned.

Obviously, a second cot isn't really that practical, especially if we only have one more child after this. I have been doing some research and it seems that transitioning at the stage Ellie would works well for most children, which is a relief to know. The question now is, do we go with a toddler bed or simply put her straight into a 'big bed'. We have a single bed frame that we can paint and just get a mattress for her if that's the way we choose to go.

I suppose, in some ways, it makes sense to put her straight into a big bed and attach a rail on the side, I mean it would be cheaper and less moving around. But, she's going to be so little, so young and I think I would feel so much better about her being in a toddler bed. Especially since she's really into getting up and jumping on the bed. I would much prefer her to fall from a smaller height if she's going to fall. In my view it's a safer way to learn getting in and out of bed when it's so close to the floor. Plus, we can then use it for Bubby and any other children that come along in the future.

I've been looking for good quality toddler beds that will fit in with our nursery furniture, I have found one that I like at Babies Galore, it's really nice but I am currently trying to find information on whether it's a safe, well made bed or just a cute one. Currently it's on sale for $242.96
, which isn't real cheap but I won't put a price on my daughter's safety. If a toddler bed is the safest choice then that's what we will do. If another cot is the safest choice then we will look into that. I think a toddler bed might help her sleep though, she seems to sleep better in bigger beds.

If we had money to throw around we would go for a Boori, one that starts as a cot then can be transformed into a toddler bed and finally a sofa. They're soooo nice.

Headache

Headache.Headache. Headache. That's really all there is to say right now.

I have had one for almost a week. So over it. I need a sleep but Ellie's has decided today is a sleep free zone.

Sick, Sick, Sick

Since returning from Sydney, Ellie has been under the weather. It wasn't too bad until Friday night when she got really sick, I thought she might even have the chicken pox because she came out in little red spots, which have since disappeared. She has a cough, very congested and is not her normal happy self. On both Friday and Saturday nights she ended up in our bed to sleep but none of us got alot of rest because she was coughing and having trouble breathing, it was horrible.

Yesterday we went to the chemist to get something for her, just to help her sleep. We ended up with Dimetapp, which relieves the congestion and makes her drowsy. She did sleep better last night, though, not much better. She was able to stay in her cot but I was up to her quite frequently.

She's not so great today. She doesn't want to do anything, she doesn't want to be with me but she doesn't want to be away. She doesn't want to sleep even though she is exhausted. Poor thing. This is the sickest she has ever been and it's so horrible to see her so unwell, upset and unlike herself.

To top it off both James and I have got a little of what she has, which is making life miserable all around!

Some Zoo Pics

On Sunday James, Ellie and I went to Taronga Zoo with James's mum and sister. It was a long day! Ellie did enjoy it, I think, though she was asleep when we got to my faves, the lions and tigers!

I didn't get as many pics as I wanted because my camera started playing up, which I am very disappointed about, but here are some:

Yes, that elephant has it's foot on the other one's head... It was kind of 'wrestling' the other one and rolling around in the mud so it could be rinsed down again.

James reckons this guy was telling stories about a fish he caught :D

Photobucket
Too tired to keep awake. So cute.

Fish and coinage

James had to take these pics, as I was unable to see over all the people in front of me :(

How funny are they? Warming themselves at the light?

Blurry lioness. It's so hard to get pics of the lions, like the Tigers there is ALWAYS a huge crowd in the way

Photobucket
We spent quite a bit of time in the ampitheatre kind of thing where we could sit and watch the sea lions

They're a bit ugly... and scary!

It has stopped raining

And I am a little bit excited that I can do some washing. Yes, there is something very wrong here. Before I got the clothes out of the machine I asked Ellie if she wanted to go outside and when I came back with the basket she was standing up against the back door all excited, when she saw me coming she let out a little squeal. So cute. She must have really missed going outside this week as she would normally keep playing until I was ready to go out and just follow me to the door.

Our pram came yesterday, it looks great and Ellie was pretty into it. We'll see how it goes this weekend as we are off to Taronga Zoo with James's mum and sister. I am so excited to be taking Ellie.

Happy Birthday To Me :)

Today's my 25th birthday :) Ellie and James made me a gorgeous card, Ellie put her hand print on it and it went all bumpy and cute. James also made me an awesome baked dinner and the most delicious cake I have ever had.
Mmm mmm.

Call us crazy...

I've been dying to post what I am about to write about, but James and I decided to wait and it has been torture! As of today I am 12 and a half weeks pregnant with Bubby # 2.

Yesterday we had our 12 week scan and everything is looking good, Bubby was stubborn and didn't want to move to allow a good look at his/her neck, which reminds me of the 7 hours we spent trying to find out whether Ellie was a girl or boy. Though it's early days I did pick up that the sonographer was calling Bubby 'her', we're not going to jump to conclusions yet, however, we do have our fingers crossed for a girl. A boy would be lovely, too but I am pretty sure that once we have a boy we won't have any more children. Another girl and then a boy would be perfect!

I had some nasty morning sickness for awhile there, which is gone now. I was worried that I would feel sick through out most of this pregnancy like I was with Ellie, so I am very happy to not be nauseous every moment of the day. I do have moments where I suddenly have to vomit, like the day James took us driving and I spewed all over the car door as I tried to get out - how embarrassing.

I am more exhausted this time around as I don't get a full night's sleep and during the day I am chasing Ellie around, though I think it's good that I have Ellie to focus on because this pregnancy seems to be going a whole lot faster.

 Here's Bubby's first pic :)
